Bob Barry – Goal Keeping

Bob is the new director of Goalkeeping for the Blitz F.C. He served as both director of coaching for Riggers S.C. (2006-2009) and head men’s soccer coach at Chaminade University of Honolulu (2006-2008). 

He directs the Bob Barry Goalkeeper Clinics in Hawaii where he has trained over 1000 young men and women in the past 10 years. 

In 2003 he was the assistant women’s soccer coat at University of Hawaii after a one year stint as the head men’s coach at Willamette University in Oregon. Prior to his position at Willamette, he served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Brigham Young University – Hawaii Campus.  He also served as Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1985 and the University of Richmond in 1996. 

Prior to coaching at Richmond, he coached 25 years at Lolani School.  His teams at Lolani School in Honolulu won 5 Hawaii state championships and 5 second place finishes in 21 years.  In 2004, he was inducted into the NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC  COACHES ASSOCATION Hall of Fame.  This past January (2009), he was the recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Robert Robinson Award for outstanding long-term contribution to high school soccer.  

Bob currently has the following coaching licenses: 

  • United States Soccer Federation – National ‘A’ License
  • F.A. England – International Coaching Badge
  • NSCAA – Advanced National Diploma 
  • F.A. England – Goalkeeper B Coaching License (Final Evaluation Pending)
  • NSCAA – Director of Coaching Diploma 

He served three years on the Board of Directors of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as Region VIII Representative and will receive his 40 year membership pin in January 2010. 

He has had soccer training articles published in Coach and Athletic Director, NSCAA Soccer Journal and two reprinted in Coaching Soccer and Winning Soccer Drills.  There are also two articles presented online at www.soccerrom.com and he recently published a new book, “Winning Goalkeeper Training” available through Reedswain Publishing.
